Our Story
At SSC Assessments, engineering competence isn’t theory — it’s built on decades of real industry experience.
Founded by Scott Conroy, SSC Assessments was created to bridge the gap between real-world engineering expertise and high-quality workplace competence assessment.
With over 40 years of hands-on engineering and mechanical maintenance experience across sectors including oil & gas, energy, manufacturing, sceismic exploration and automotive, Scott has spent a career working on critical plant, rotating equipment, mechanical systems and maintenance operations both in the UK and internationally.
After moving into vocational assessment and quality assurance, it became clear that many apprenticeship and competence systems lacked something important — genuine industrial understanding.
SSC Assessments was established to provide employers, training providers and apprentices with support grounded in real engineering practice, technical credibility and a strong understanding of compliance requirements.
Over the years, SSC Assessments has supported engineering apprentices, employers and providers through workplace assessment, Internal Quality Assurance (IQA), competence reviews and apprenticeship progression support across a range of engineering disciplines.
Scott’s expertise extends beyond assessment. He has contributed to the development of engineering competence systems, including supporting the creation of an alternative competence framework aligned to industry-recognised standards for major international energy operations in the Middle East — work recognised for its impact on engineering workforce capability.
Today, SSC Assessments combines practical engineering knowledge with quality assurance expertise to help organisations develop competent people, maintain standards and support successful apprenticeship outcomes.
Because good assessment should do more than tick boxes — it should build confidence, competence and careers.
